Getting better at word games comes down to a few transferable habits: treat every guess as a question, favor elimination over hope, and practice with archives where there is no streak on the line. These carry across Wordle, Quordle, and most daily puzzles.
Elimination beats hope
The biggest single improvement is refusing to guess the answer while the field is still wide. A guess that removes 200 possible words is usually worth more than a guess that might be right but only removes 10. Panic guesses feel like action; they are just hope wearing a costume.
Reframe each guess as a question you are asking the board. What will this tell me that I do not already know? If the answer is "almost nothing," pick a different word.

Every daily game constrains something different
It is tempting to treat puzzle games as one skill with different skins. They are not. Each game constrains a different property of the answer, and the strategy that works in one is wasted in another where the constraint is unrelated to letters.
The table below sets out what each common game actually gives you feedback about. Once you can name the constraint, the strategy follows: if the feedback is about position, you are solving a placement problem; if it is about meaning, you are solving a search problem.

The habits that transfer
Across all of them, four habits do the work. None of them is a trick, and all of them are things you can practise deliberately on today's board.
The first is elimination before commitment. The second is reading feedback as a set of exclusions rather than as a hint about the answer. The third is keeping the board's constraint in mind rather than the game's theme. The fourth is practising where mistakes are free.
The steps below turn those into a routine you can apply to any daily puzzle you play.

Name the constraint before you guess
Decide whether the feedback you receive will be about letters, positions, order, numbers or meaning. The answer determines what a good first guess even is.

Write down what each guess eliminated
Keep a short list of exclusions rather than a memory of guesses. Eliminations are permanent and they are the part you can actually reason from.

Prefer information while the field is wide
Early guesses should buy knowledge. Only switch to guessing the answer when the remaining candidates are few enough to enumerate.

Practise on archives, not on streaks
Archive puzzles carry no record, so a deliberate mistake costs nothing. Use them to test an approach you would not risk on today's board.

Review one finished game before starting another
Look at which guess contributed least and why. Identifying the weak guess is more informative than playing an additional puzzle.
The arithmetic underneath every daily puzzle
Almost every game in this family is built from the same two numbers: how many guesses you are given, and how many slots each guess tests. Those two numbers define the entire information budget you are working inside.
Knowing them changes how you spend early guesses. A game that gives you four boards and nine guesses is asking for broadly useful guesses; a game that gives you six guesses at five slots each is asking you to spend the first two buying information and the rest closing.
